The Geothermal Valley is a location in Rise of the Tomb Raider. It is the seventh location discovered in the game and a rather big Hub Level.

In the course of the the game Lara visits here three times: She first enters the valley coming through the Abandoned Mines and leaves for the Acropolis. Later she returns from the Flooded Archives and leaves again for her second visit of the Soviet Installation. Finally she makes a very short visit coming from the Research Base on her way to the The Orrery.

Story
After meeting Sophia and Jacob again, Lara has finally allied herself with the Remnant and sets out to explore the valley. It is inhabited by several Remnant that have build some huts here. They seem to have lived in the Valley since the city of Kitezh has been lost to them, up until the Soviets came and forced them to labour in the mines. After they drove out the Soviets they seem to have resumed their simple live in the valley, surviving by hunting and some agriculture.

The valley provides good living conditions: The geothermal sources provide mild winters and there is a wide variety of game here, like Bunnies and Birds, as well as Deer and wild Boar.

First Visit
When Lara first visits here she is asked by the Remnant to help in the preparations for the impending Trinity attack. She agrees and finally crosses the valley up into the hills to help Jacob and his people to get rid of the soldiers. After the fight Lara sets out for the old Acropolis in order to find the Remnant that hid here.

Second Visit
Lara has to cross the Geothermal Valley in order to get to the Flooded Archives and find the Atlas that shows the location of the Divine Source. Lara has to fight her way through the Trinity soldiers that now occupy the valley up to the cathedral in order to enter the archives.

Third Visit
After finding the Atlas Lara returns to Jacob. She also meets Jonah again who has been rescued from the wilderness by the Remnant and brought here. Konstantin and his Trinity minions surprise them and take the Atlas as well as Jonah with them. Lara sets out for a rescue mission.

Challenge Tombs
There are four Challenge Tombs located in the Geothermal Valley: Catacomb of Sacred Waters, House of the Afflicted, Baths of Kitezh, and The Pit of Judgement.

Missions
There are four Missions available in the Geothermal Valley: Defensive Strategy, Surveillance Disruption, A Hearty Meal, and Ancient Secrets.

Levels
On first play-through there are three Levels that take place at this location: Warming Up, Prepare for Battle, and To the Tower. When Lara returns for the first time it is in the level Silent Night. Her final visit is in the level The Gathering.

Base Camps
There are seven Base Camps at this location: Valley Farmstead, Ruins Encampment, Cliffside Lookout, Aqueduct Ruins, Hidden Ravine, Cathedral Courtyard, and Ridgeline.

A Hub Level (or Hub Space) is a level or area the player (sometimes or always) returns to after finishing a specific task, like completing a regular level. Here the player can choose to go on to the next level or stay and finish other tasks like Challenges in Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris - or Secret Tombs, Missions, or Hunting in Tomb Raider (2013) and Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Tomb Raider Games
Tomb Raider (2013)
In the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot game the Mountain Village, Shantytown, and possibly the Shipwreck Beach Locations can be considered hub spaces as the player returns here several times throughout the story.

Rise of the Tomb Raider
In Rise of the Tomb Raider the Locations Geothermal Valley and Soviet Installation act as hub levels. Lara comes here more than once in the course of the story and can also return here in order to hunt or finish Secret Tombs, Crypts, or Missions. The first Siberian level, Siberian Wilderness, is rather big, too, and can therefore also be considered a Hub Level, even if she does not necessarily return here in the course of the story - after her first visit there are only two Caves (RotTR) left to explore sh could not enter before because of missing Gear.

Lara Croft Games
Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris
In Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris the hub level is called Shrine of Osiris. From here, every other part of the game is reachable and the player(s) have to return here to choose how to continue and change the Time of Day or the Seasons in the Osiris Shrine Interior.

Lara's Home is the training level in Tomb Raider II.

It acts as a place for players to get familiar with the controls.

New features compared to the previous Lara's Home are, for example, Winston, Lara's faithful butler, who follows her throughout the grounds, and some new rooms.

Winston does not enter the bathroom if Lara is in the bathtub. Unlike the mansion in Tomb Raider III, Lara cannot leave the mansion grounds via the main gate, as it is locked.

Lara greets the players with the words: "Welcome back. After that gruelling business last year I've decided to build this assault course to hone my skills... and learn some new ones. "

The Manor
Lara's home from Tomb Raider II is more complex than in the previous Tomb Raider as it houses more rooms, including Lara's bedroom and bathroom and a secret treasure room in the basement, containing several artefacts from the previous game. A timed outside Assault Course includes a zipline and water elements.

To the right of the front gate there is a hedge maze and, at the end of it, an area with two Incan statues, a box of flares and a button that opens the timed door to the secret treasure room.

The mansion also contains a kitchen with a freezer where Lara keeps food. The freezer door is opened and closed with the push of a button located outside the freezer. Fans of the game have discovered that Lara's butler can be locked inside the freezer as he moves slowly. The same can be done with the final boss in Home Sweet Home.

Next to the kitchen, where Lara's original indoor assault course was located, there is a large ball room complete with a stereo that plays the "Venice Violins" song.

The pool room is almost unchanged, except for the wall colours and the diver at the pool.

Rooms
* Main Hall
* Ballroom
* Balcony
* Kitchen
* Pool House
* Lara's Bedroom
:* Gun Cupboard
* Bathroom
* Lara's Library
* Music Room
* Cellar
* Attic
* Garden
:* Assault Course
:* Labyrinth

Gallery
<gallery>
Image:Entrance_hall_tr2.jpg|Main Entrance
Image:Ballroom_tr2.jpg|Ballroom
Image:Pool_mansion_tr2.jpg|Pool Room
Image:Bedroom_tr2.jpg‎|Lara's Bedroom
</gallery>

Rumors and bugs
There were rumors that the closed rooms from the first floor would open if the assault course is finished in an absurd short amount of time. The rumors are fake, unfortunately.

The roof of the mansion can be reached by preforming the Cornerbug. Lara gradually goes inside the corner front of the house and the machine rejects her, sending Lara to the nearest possible surface, the roof.

Assault Course Records
The record for the shortest time of completion of the course is 1:03:9, by Wolff Morrow.
